As cranky as I can get about people making their minds up ahead if time based on narrative instead of fact (Must. Not. Contradict. Narrative. is kind of my catchphrase now), I do see a bit of hope that not every narrative-confirming story gets picked up. Case in point, the not-press-release from not-SEIU about the not-endorsement of President Obama that was twitterbombed last night.
The good part. No one here picked it up. No one here got taken in. Search SEIU and you get one story involving a DK/SEIU poll. In short, even though 20 minutes on twitter is a lifetime, a big fat nuttin'.
Not surprisingly, though, narrative confirmers at Politico (at least he admitted it) and National Journaldid.
Let's just go to Zandar, shall we?
The interesting part is not who is behind it, the interesting part is the fact that whoever did it knew that a professional beltway type like Josh Marshall finds the notion of a massive union withdrawing its endorsement of a Democratic president plausible and almost irresistible, and would miss the irony of how that little piece of conventional wisdom completely fooled a number of “journalists” last night who couldn’t resist the notion that THE LEFT HATES OBAMA ZOMG.
Gives me hope that that hoax got what it deserved.
