In a new twist on the gender police a Macy's employee was fired for not allowing a Transgender woman to try on clothes in the appropriate dressing room in conflict with company policy. The bigoted employee was fired. Now the fired employee is claiming her religion was discriminated against and Liberty Council is helping her with her Federal lawsuit.
SAN ANTONIO -- A local college student says she was fired from her job for refusing to allow a transgender woman into the women's dressing room. Now she's speaking out, saying her religion conflicts with the store's transgender policy.
Liberty Counsel, a religious advocacy group, is representing 27-year-old Natalie Johnson after she was fired over the Nov. 30 confrontation. Johnson said she was never aware of Macy's transgender policy, but now that she is, she doesn't agree with it.
To the woman that believes in her theology more than science persons such as myself do not exist.
Johnson filed a complaint with the Federal Employment Commission, claiming her religious beliefs prevent her from recognizing transgender people.
"There are no transgenders in the world. A guy can dress up as a woman all he wants, that's still not going to make you a woman," said Johnson.
Macy's is inclusive enough to know playing gender police is not good company policy.
Macy’s did not answer ABCNews.com’s request for clarification on its policy regarding transgender customers and where they can try on clothes, but Macy’s senior vice president of corporate communications and external affairs Jim Sluzewski issued the following statement:
“Macy’s is very proud of our philosophy of diversity and inclusion, and we welcome all customers into our stores. This includes customers of all races, ethnicities, ages, genders, faith traditions, countries of origins and lifestyle preferences. We strive to ensure that each customer is able to shop in a discrimination-free environment.”
Interestingly the face to face interviewees were supportive of the woman harassed at Macy's by the rabid religionist. The online anonymous comments were supportive of bigotry:
This same woman has a history of harassing LGBT's at the college she attends as well:
8:20 AM PT: I almost forgot. Thank Macy's if you shop there this holiday season.
