I recently went to Penn Station and thought I was in some third world country. The amount of people sleeping at the underground station was outrageous. As I continued to walk around the area I noticed a police officer who walked up to these homeless people and kicked them. The officer was attempting to wake them up and maybe was attempting to force them out of the underground station. I guess the majority of homeless people went there to receive some decent heat and a roof over their heads. It was like watching dead bodies piled up all over Penn Station as the homeless slept in large numbers. I attempted to count the massive body count and lost the tally or number of homeless individuals there trying to find refugee from the cold weather. I couldn’t help thinking about all the people who just walk by all of these people as if this was supposed to be a normal thing in America. A watched as a woman at store started searching for a valentine’s card as a large number of homeless people just piled up across the business front of the store. I couldn’t believe my eyes on the amount of homeless people living at Penn Station. It felt like I was in some horror movie or a natural disaster that had just hit New York City. Someone, anyone has to do something about the homelessness on the streets of New York.
It seems Mayor Bloomberg is ignoring the people who need the most but the amount of homeless at Penn Station has shocked me to a new level. Some of them would have sheets as others congregated among with each other to see how much money they were able to collect. This is just a shame one of the wealthiest countries in the world that has an increasing gap between those who have it and does who don’t.
I can’t believe the people can see all of this happening and just walk on by as if these people aren’t human beings.
