This is a somewhat brief Diary, but I am glad to report on it.
The Hawaii Legislature has pass a Same Sex Civil Union Bill and Governor Neil Abercrombie will sign it into law.
The Story is here
Since 1993, Hawaii has been grappling the Same Sex Marriage Issue, and by no means is this the last step. But it is still a good step. I am one of those people who believe in a step here, and a step there in order to get what you want in the end.
With Maryland voting on Gay Marriage hopefully this week, we are entering a new era of Marriage equality, where Legislatures actually are beginning pass legislation to grant some form of equality.
Again, it is a step, an incomplete step, but it is better than nothing. I am proud that my home state of Illinois has passed Civil Unions, and that my Adoptive home of DC has passed Gay Marriage. I now live in Australia, and while De Facto relationships are like marriage (for both Gays and Straights... it is rather popular here for the younger generation) there are strides towards Gay marriage even here.
Thank you Hawaii for making that step, hopefully the final step of Marriage equality will come soon for you. In the meanwhile, we will continue to work around the world to make sure that the GLBT community is not persecuted, treated like second class citizens, and have the freedom to pursue happiness, regardless of where they live, or who they love.
