UPDATED AND EDITED 3/2/11
After attending 2 rallies in the last week and staying informed and up-to-date on the happenings in Wisconsin, mostly via the internet, since the news is pathetic, together we need to keep up the pressure and support of all those fighting for the US! The middle class, we are smart, we are aware and we are ready to fight!
I also wanted to thank the 14 Democratic Wisconsin Senators that, through their act of democracy, has allowed this issue it's rightful place in the court of public opinion. The more we learn, the harder we should fight!
Below is my message to them and their email addresses if you feel so compelled...
For those of us on the sidelines, watching history in action, I want to send my utmost respect and support. The processes of true democracy have never been achieved without resilence, sacrifice and resolve. It is where heroes are born, it is what we read about in history books with pride and reverence. It appears that Wisconsin has been thrust into the history books once again! In college I studied extensively the history of the early 20th century and the amazing part that unions played in shaping a truly unique democracy, our amazing, creative, robust middle class! The war against us has been slow and degrading, but we have held ourselves high, sucked in our guts, took less time off, worked longer hours, sold our things, sacrificed for our familes, comforted in knowing that we weren't the only ones. At some point just saying or hearing "There's nothing we can do, it's just the economy" is cold comfort as you watch the quality of life around you plummet, the homelessness and sadness spread. We are a strong people though and fight is not above us!
As I have heard recently democracy is a process, not an end game. And while we see bits of dissent in national politics, yours made the process a little more real for everyone. At least for me. And for that, I thank you, and the good people of Wisconsin!
Thank you, United We Stand.
