Bloomington was one of several Indiana communities holding rallies to support Democratic legislators and Public education. While Indiana’s governor, state superintendent of education and Republican lawmakers push an extreme right wing radical agenda attacking education and workers, Indiana House Democrats remain in Illinois, denying Republicans a quorum they need to pass the threatening legislation. The Bloomington rally was sponsored by the local teachers' union, the Monroe County Education Association.
Indiana State Senator Vi Simpson and Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan address the crowd on the steps of City Hall. State Representatives Peggy Welch and Matt Pierce both made phone calls to the rally. A march from City Hall to the Monroe County Courthouse concluded the rally.
