Happy Monday, Cranky Users! I hope your day isn't going much like the typical Monday. I am cranky about plumbing, but sadly our DK4 development team cannot help with that sort of issue, regardless of how well the "stream" works.
Last night, kos posted a diary to discuss the numbers that demonstrate how site usage is doing. That was interesting, and full of good news. Here, we'll look at a few interesting items that came up in the comments, because it's Monday and my work inbox is overflowing and I can keep this short. Follow me beyond the squiggle!
So, my favorite part of the diary was this:
...I've made refining this platform my top priority over the next six months. It's only going to get better -- easier to use, with kick ass new features to bolster existing functionality. Just wait to you see what I have in store for groups! (ETA? Two weeks, I'm guessing.)
The tech team is close to solving the insidious cache bug that is behind 70% of site problems. After that is fixed, they'll fix the mojo, which is currently broken. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes it works wrong. They're hoping those two big bugs are fixed by the end of this coming week. After that, it's time to smooth out the rough edges, and I can't wait to get started on that.
My cranky friends, we'll really need to get busy and find new things to complain about once the cache bug (the thing with reccing, for instance) and mojo are both fixed! That's major stuff! And new easier features for groups? So exciting!
Kos also tells us:
p.s. Mobile site? It should arrive any moment now. I was hoping we'd get it Friday, but a few last-minute bugs are holding it up.
We republished wycats' diary from early this morning telling you, if you're a mobile user, how to try the beta, so if you've been waiting for that, go have a look, and follow wycats if you have not already.
In the comments, smileycreek shows us an innocuous little Confirm checkbox on the Messaging screen that we almost certainly DO NOT want to check, and kos responds with what we all know: Messaging sucks! A rewrite is promised. Here, Catesby tells a funny messaging story.
GussieFN asks a question about speed for dialup users. After some discussion, a reply from elfling gives a nuanced answer -- the site itself loads faster than DK3, but older computers and operating systems have issues with the code, plus more images are in use, on the front page and elsewhere. If you have speed issues, it's worth reading elfling's comment.
And last, we have some interesting news about the future of at least one bit of the free press, found here but reproduced here because I think it's so cool:
Yeah (22+ / 0-)
Will never happen. I will never sell AOL.
In fact, I've been talking to lawyers about a succession plan that would keep Daily Kos independent in perpetuity. (I did my estate planning a few weeks ago, so I'm feeling extra mortal at the moment.)

That'll hold us for now, my dears! Let's hear what your issues are today, in the comments. Go ahead -- at the very least, we'll sympathize!
