The national Liberal convention has come and gone.
United we stand.
Highlights;
* A typically selfless farewell evening to Prime Minister Jean Chrétien on Thursday (with very kind words from the great Bill Clinton). I'll add my own Merci Monsieur Chrétien. Bonus was the huge standing O when Mr. Chrétien mentioned Canada standing firm on its decision to NOT fight in bush's Iraq war.
* U2's Bono giving an introductory and truly moving speech "Pain in the ass" prior to the acclamation of the new Liberal leader and soon to be long term Prime Minister, Paul Martin.
* Mr. Martin's first words 'edge of historic possibility' as our new party chief, were, as expected, encouraging.
"We stand together on the edge of historic possibility -- at a moment that comes rarely in the life of a country," Mr. Martin said. "It is a time when destiny is ours to hold."

Juxtaposing the neighbourly nations is becoming more and more intriguing.
Canada, guided by the moral light of its public, content with balanced budgets, debt reduction, job stability, individual rights no matter the sex, gender or inclination to spliffing once in a while and most importantly international respect for such a small population of idealists, living next to a goliathan world power, drunk on its narcissistic ideology could have meant easy capitulation if it were not for the last decade of Mr. Chrétien's governing party. Paul Martin, a millionare from his family businesses and an extremely intelligent man, will carry the torch of Liberalism while he grooms our nation for a greater, even more responsible role in the world. Its a great time to be a Liberal in Canada and its sad that one can barely use that label in the USofA.
