A quickie diary.
A zar in Egypt is a very traditional Sufi Islam religious ceremony to exorcise demons from someone's body.
It involves dancing, chanting and incantations of various forms of God's name, especially "Allah" and "Hayy" ("the living one").
The video here starts out saying "The demonstrations aren't working. The sit-in isn't working. Maybe a zar will work to get him out."
Then the music: "Insaraf! Insaraf! Insaraf! Insaraf!" (Get out! Get out! Get out! Get out!). Then "Irhal! Irhal! Irhal! Irhal!" (Leave! Leave! Leave! Leave!). No need to mention who the demon is.
Note: The demos peak on Tuesday and Friday. The first Tuesday was a public holiday, the aptly named Police Day. Yesterday was the biggest demo of them all. By fortuitous chance, next Tuesday is also a public holiday, the Prophet's Birthday.
