I cannot begin to say how disappointing I find this symbolic resolution that passed our State senate 28-10.
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The state Senate has approved a resolution
declaring the Kentucky coal industry exempt from oversight by the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The resolution passed 28-10 in a floor vote held Monday
afternoon.
True it has no teeth, trying to tell the EPA they have no authority to regulate coal or other polluters in our state. A state with the
sixth worst mercury pollution and a whole list of other problems.
I guess we should just trust the big coal companies like our state republicans and democrats want us to do. I mean, it's not like they have ever been caught lying to the people or putting their own interests above the safety and health of the people! Oh wait...does this guy count?
Probably not, like with the violence he must be just another "lone wolf" event...
Truth is it just boggles my mind. All the detrimental effects that we know this industry has on our health, our environment, and the safety of its own workers you would think that maybe, just maybe...something of a conscience would kick in with some of these people. Carcinogens, heavy metals, they don't care. They simply don't care.
You cannot shame those without conscience. Nor can you convince a population that thinks it is more dependent upon the industry than it really is that the industry is harming them more than it is ultimately helping them. That the EPA does what it does for their benefit, even though frankly they don't do much around here to reel these pricks in, their intent is the health and safety of the people and environment. Most here, don't know half the poisons being dumped in the system.
I just find it all so frustrating.
