With last nights events in Madison it seems assured that my trip downward economically is only a matter of time. I'm a public employee of a school system outside of Milwaukee. I'm the second shift custodial supervisor at a high school. Right now our Union has a contract till 2013 but that does not diminish the stress worry and rage I have over what has happened to my fellow workers who will wither and die under Walker's conservative take over of my state. But let me run a few numbers by you all too see where this is going to take me.
With alot of overtime I can make a bit over $40,000. With the insurance and pension deduction it'll knock that number down $3000. Now without a union contract the health care costs just for a family deductable will most likely go up to $5000 or so a year. So now we're down to about $32,000. My hourly wage most likely will be cut oh say $5 a hour if not more. Which will knock off $10,400 which will put me at $21,600. Now there's also the possibility that when our contract is up the school district will privatize so then all the numbers become zero.
This is a pretty grime situtation but this is what it's all about here in Wisconsin. Years of service, quality of work, dedication mean nothing. Its all about money and nothing else. Blue collar employees like me are seen as nothing but costs and expenses that have to be curtailed or eliminated. And the greatest irony is that it doesn't have to be this way. All because one man is a stubborn headed ass who see's nothing but political glory of a conservative agenda. Thanks Walker for destorying me and thousands of other Wisconsin citizens way of life.
