Not really, but I'm trying. Whenever I use a government service in Arizona I’m only going to use my absolutely horrendous Spanish. Why?
My bat shit crazy, state legislators are so scared of people who speak Spanish that even though the Supreme Court ruled that the English only law was unconstitutional, they keep trying to bring it back. info
A quote from a member of the BSC club:
Sen. Don Shooter, R-Yuma, said he's not trying to be punitive. He also said it's not aimed at any particular group
If you believe that they are not aiming at a particular group I have a reasonably priced map to the Lost Dutchman mine.
Okay I admit that in a referendum the voters of Arizona in 2006 approved a (not my fault, I was still in Planet UT) English only official communication language. From the referendum:
Representatives of the state or a local government would be required to preserve, protect and enhance the role of English as the official language.
There were exceptions to English only that the official could have an “unofficial” chat in another language. This new piece of bat shit crazy legislation would forbid the “unofficial” chats unless the person requests using another language in English. As my father would say, “screw them and the horse they rode in on!”
Since I moved back to Tucson last year I have been working at resurrecting my poor Spanish because I live in a healthy community that is mostly bilingual. I’m now going to work harder at my Spanish because anything that will piss off my bat shit crazy legislators is a blessing.
