Marty Harty may have resigned but his ideas are still being implemented, and joked about by House leadership:
Yesterday, [NH House Speaker] O'Brien continued to show reckless disregard for the offensive nature of the comments. O'Brien joked that Rep. Harty should write a "Eugenics for Dummies" book, during prepared remarks at a fundraiser for Dartmouth's Children's Hospital attended by Republican Presidential candidate Rick Santorum. (e-mailed press release from NHDP)
And Saturday the Koch (pronounced “coke”) Brothers’ Americans for Prosperity is hosting their forum on how to nullify federal laws you don’t like in your state here in NH. (It was suggested at a recent meeting that we always tell people how the Koch Brothers' name is pronounced so that they make the connection between what they hear and what they see in print.)
Poor New Hampshire. Last year at this time we were celebrating the marriages of our gay friends and being grateful that we were doing very well during the Great Recession. This year we are moving backwards about 50 years a second as the NH House votes on all the very strange bills introduced in this session. Should the Senate pass even some of these bills and the governor’s veto be overridden, which they have the votes to do, we will be looking at the devastation of NH’s economy and enormous pain for many of the people who live here.
These people ran on jobs and the economy, in a state that had one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country and an economy that was coming back strongly. They haven’t created a single job, and the cuts they plan in the budget will mean enormous losses in the public sector, teachers, healthcare workers, public safety workers, road construction crews, and on and on.
