My fellow liberal beer drinkers, mark your calendars now...
Nationwide Toast to the Craft Beer Community:
May 16-22, 2011
Considered The Mother of All Beer Weeks, ACBW recognizes one of America's true culinary arts and provides a platform for small and independent craft brewers to salute supporters and connect with their local communities. Thousands of today's beer enthusiasts, beginners and hard core geeks will toast craft beer, with ACBW events predicted to take place in all 50 states.
Craft Beer Week is an annual event sponsored by the Brewers Association to promote Craft Breweries around the United States. The aim is to encourage the beer drinking enthusiast to try beers brewed locally.
Craft Beer Week started in 2006 with 124 breweries from across the country hosting events in their areas. By 2010 the event had grown to include 341 breweries hosting some 621 events. They are predicting that participation this year will exceed even last years numbers.
Last year (2010) Congress passed house resolution 1297 supporting the goals and ideals of American Craft Beer Week. H. Res. 1297 (pdf)
So please mark your calendar and plan to attend an event in your area. Your participation supports the local economy.
CraftBeer.com is a site set up by the Brewers Association specifically to promote Craft Beer Week. You can check out their calendar for events that will be happening in your area. As of this writing there are only a few listed, but check in as we get into the month of May to find a lot more events posted.
Many areas of the country celebrate their own local Beer Weeks. You can find the schedule for all of the beer weeks throughout 2011 here.
