Elections have results; and as we have seen since January, the 2010 mid-terms have only born rotten fruit. Republicans seem to have misread the tealeaves and Americans are showing them that their big business economic “solutions” aren't what we need. Slow economic recovery caused a lot of frustration and blind anger can lead to bad decisions and now our nation is paying the price for it.
The Republican agenda is a wolf in sheep's clothing; their only real goal is to destroy what little is left of the middle class while further oppressing America's working poor. Since January, there has not been one bill to address job creation or the rebuilding of our economy.
Instead, Republicans are on a crusade to repeal healthcare reform, rob women of their Constitutional rights slash benefits for the working poor and give tax breaks to the wealthy. Many have said that they have gone too far and now we see the American public push back.
Polls in Wisconsin, Ohio, and Michigan show people are regretting their votes for Republicans in gubernatorial races, and nationwide, Americans do not want to see cuts to Social Security. While polling is great, our nation must ensure that we harness our anger for good rather than lashing out blindly. We cannot afford similar decisions that led to the results of the last election.
Heartland Revolution was born out of the ashes of the 2010 mid-terms as an answer to the corporate takeover of our nation. As a candidate for Congress in Kentucky's Fourth District I witnessed firsthand what can happen when a candidate is outspent three-to-one by the likes of the Koch brothers and Karl Rove.
Heartland Revolution's mission is not to prop up a political party. We seek to restore our Country's founding ideal that we are the shapers of our government, not only the wealthy elite.
We are going to help build coalitions to ensure that we have a machine that can compete against the billions being funneled into elections. While they might have all the money, we have one thing they cannot overcome: boots on the ground.
We've seen the effects of activism in Wisconsin and other states, and now, like cornered animals, the Koch brothers are lashing out. They are showing their cards and David Koch feels this powerful movement of working families is “very, very extreme and very dangerous.” We agree, the people are very dangerous to the corporate interests of the Koch Brothers, we have the power to shut them out of politics.
While we are making progress, we cannot ease up. Join the Heartland Revolution movement to ensure that our voices are heard. History is calling my friends… will you answer?
