I'm watching Lawrence O'Donnell. Austin Goolsbee is the interviewee. I don't know how to interpret what I heard.
O'Donnell pressed Goolsbee on the budget cuts. Particularly Boehner's offer to back the president in cutting Social Security and Medicare.
Goolsbee tap-danced quite adeptly around all the questions. I don't think he once said "Social Security" but he did refer to "social insurance programs."
While I'm happy that "insurance" is used to describe SS I have an uncomfortable feeling that this is the start of a bait and switch. Change the words that people have a connection to then cut the program. Like clear skies and clean coal.
O'Donnell asked about the president's promise re: "slashing" and "privatization." I just feel very wary of this all and nothing Goolsbee said reassured me in the least.
Thoughts?
