Here we go again. Republicans are on a budget cutting frenzy which does little more than pay for the tax cuts they continue to lavish on the richest amongst us.
And I know what the Democratic political machine will conclude. You can never run on a campaign of increasing taxes on the rich and not showing you are a deficit hawk. The people will revolt against any tax increase and even being against further tax cuts will be interpreted as wanting to raise taxes.
I don't know why they are so convinced of this. They have never tried running against Republicans by actually proposing things that work. For decades their mantra has been we are not as bad as they are. When we cut taxes for the rich and cut programs for the poor we at least feel really bad about it.
Like many, I thought Obama would be different but he negotiates a better deal for Republicans with himself than Republicans could ever negotiate for themselves. Democrats are so afraid of the Republican boogey man they can't muster the courage to do anything more than agree with them.
There are some exceptions but they are very few and very far between. There is not a single respectable economic theory that says cutting government spending stimulates jobs. There is not one second of history that proves it yet, it is accepted as gospel. Republicans have gotten to the point where they will literally make up anything to make reality fit their dogma. Democrats seem bent on making reality fit Republican delusions.
