...and the statistics only get worse when you explore the results of neighboring states in a recent Public Policy Polling covering three states. Georgia residents "approved" the win for the North at a 53% rate, North Carolina residents approving the results at 48%, and Mississippi came in at just 34% of its residents agreeing with the results of the war. Are we still really asking that question, in 2011? The survey results are here-- http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/...
Other statistics became available as a result of the survey, with questions about the legalization of interracial marriages in the spotlight. Georgia republicans and the general public showed a majority support for the legalization of interracial marriages-- but Mississippi remained well-behind its neighbor, where Mississippi's republicans aligned against interracial marriages.
It's definitely worth exploring the trends found in the survey-- at a pretty decent sample size of 2500 surveyed across the three states. It's a pretty telling story that 47% of Georgians are unsure or disagree with the Union's win in the civil war, hundreds of years later. This should serve as an even greater call for grassroots organizations efforts so lacking here in Georgia.
