Oh yes, not smart enough to figure out how hyperbole got Senator Jon Kyl in trouble with the likes of Colbert, Rick Santorum (of Google Infamy) has just attacked Planned Parenthood of being racist and part of the eugenics movement in the 1930s.
Talk about stupid.
Nevertheless, Santorum doesn't think the Planned Parenthood of today is much different from the age of Sanger's controversial views. He called on Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) to sign a bill in his state that would "defund" Planned Parenthood for Hoosiers, pointing to what he calls the group's shady past and sketchy present.
"I can't imagine any other organization with its roots as poisonous as the roots of Planned Parenthood getting federal funding of any kind," Santorum said. "This is an organization that was founded on the eugenics movement, founded on racism -- I mean, it's horrific. It's origins are horrific. And you can say, 'well it's not that anymore.' It's not far from where it was in my opinion."
As evidence of how "not far" Planned Parenthood is from his reading of its past, Santorum raised another standard of the anti-abortion movement, specifically an interview Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg gave the New York Times Magazine in 2009.
So my question is- how stupid do these idiots think we are?
Here's the common Republican playbook under Karl Rove.
1) Identify the strengths of the target.
2) Attack those strengths to change the narrative.
3) Continue hammering until what you say dominates the entire conversation.
For Republicans to claim that organizations and persons who support the individual right of women to be able to make their own medical choices, are inherently racist and eugenics oriented... well, talk about despicable.
This is of course, all part of the right's winning strategy (by using terrorism against providers, such as the assassination of George Tiller and pushing several state laws restricting abortions meant to go to the Supreme Court) to destroy the rights of women and put Big Government up the collective uterus.
Planned Parenthood donations went through the roof after Kyl's lie on the senate floor claiming that 90% of Planned Parenthood's activity was abortion (the truth is, only 3%, while the other 97% was on everything else such as contraception and other services for, well, parents who plan on having children).
Here's the weird thing; abortions are on the decline- the CDC tracks this stuff (and it has mostly to do with more use of contraception, and nothing to do with Abstinence).
Here's the other thing; Eugenics is Big Government killing people. Abortions? They're self selected groups.
Here are the reasons why women choose abortion.
* 25.5% Want to postpone childbearing
* 21.3% Cannot afford a baby
* 14.1% Has relationship problem or partner does not want pregnancy
* 12.2% Too young; parent(s) or other(s) object to pregnancy
* 10.8% Having a child will disrupt education or job
* 7.9% Want no (more) children
* 3.3% Risk to fetal health
* 2.8% Risk to maternal health
* 2.1% Other
So where in here are the eugenics? Where in here is the blatant racism that sets the likes of Santorum to Froth at the Mouth?
