Near Freezing Monday Night, 100 on Sunday. That's our current prediction in Carlsbad. Yeah, it's always a little wacky here in May, but this is more than usual.
So, tomorrow I'll go and cover up the tomatoes and peppers & stuff with leaves & water it all down, and/or cut out milk jugs or whatever, and a week later, it will be water emergency time again.
Unseasonable 'r' us these days!
Well, we survived the last ice age (not the little one, the real one before that). Just barely. Maybe we will survive this, even though we're helping to make it happen.
Ya never know.
Heard from a friend in ABQ who will be down this weekend, asked me to look around for people trashing Agave neomexicana plants. I noted that generally it's A. americana that gets trashed, if any, but said I'd be happy to keep an eye out.
The latter are native to Mexico, the former native to New Mexico.
He said he's an eternal optimist. I'm good with that.
I was bicycling to the grocery store at dusk this evening, went past a gaggle of kids strolling. I had my Daily Kos-imprinted shopping bags crumpled up in one of my baskets, as always.
One of the kids yelled at me; "Hey! Are there snakes in that bag?"
It was one of those moments that don't involve any previous sense of how to deal with them. The kind that are easy, for me, to just ignore.
Instead I laughed, and said; "no!"
I suppose one could argue that there are snakes in our bag, but what the heck. It's a mixed bag.
