Gone Fishin’ instead of just a Wishin’ |
|
Gone Fishin’ is a favorite pastime in the US. Nearly 16% of our population are anglers and they spent 467 MILLION days fishing.
Some folks might consider time spent Gone Fishin’ as lacking ambition as that old song by Louis Armstrong goes, but anglers know better. Patience and endurance are honed on a fishing trip. Not to mention the intricate preparation of special bait and tying lures for successful angling. It’s an old tale across centuries… don’t rush your prep if you want results.
So Gone Fishin’ was understood around my family and especially for my grandmother. But, never a Gone Fishin’ sign was hung whenever my grandmother had had enough hard work for one day. She’d simply brush her hair away from her face and tuck her work away until later… and you’d see her walking down the path toward the river with her fishing pole. The work never suffered one iota from the fishing break.
Calling fishing a hobby is like calling brain surgery a job.
~Paul Schullery
And, of course, a diary about fishing just wouldn't be complete without your fishing tales. :^) You know you've got one...
