Right now it is looking like President Obama will win reelection in a landslide. This means that he will be free to help Democrats regain control of the House and keep the Senate.
A lonely landslide is when a President is reelected in a landslide, but his party picks up few or no seats in Congress. This happened in 1956, 1972, 1984, and 1996.
This means that Obama should spend much of October 2012 funneling money to and campaigning for other Democratic candidates in order to share the wealth.
What good is 400 electoral votes when all that you need is 270. Its not like Republicans are going to be any more cooperative if Obama wins 450 electoral votes rather than 278.
One of my biggest criticisms of Obama in 2008 was that he didnt campaign for Senate and House candidates in October when he held a 10 point lead over John McCain in the polls. If he had won 278 electoral votes rather than 365, it would have made no difference.
Its time Obama starts sharing the wealth with other Democrats so we can have a big, broad Democratic victory in 2012.
