The Daily Bucket is a place to catch your casual observations of the natural world and turn them into a valuable resource. Whether it's the first flowers of spring or that odd bug in your basement, don't be afraid to toss your thoughts into the bucket. Check here for a more complete description.
In spite of last night's hailstorm, they assure me that it is spring. It is a weird one, with some of the the strawberries nearly ready to eat and assorted birds fledging, while the weather remains wintry and ugly. What I haven't yet noted is fledgling House Finches. They are pretty unmistakeable, and we have plenty each year, but none to date, in spite of the chickadee and towhee fledges. Ah well, perhaps next week. (HOFI, natch, is the bird banders abbreviation for House Hinch, the first two letters of each word.)
That is today's meagre report from Castro Valley, Ca. How about your locale, what is happening and where might you be?
