After a day that started out with a town clerk trying to enforce a "law" that had not passed the legislature yet, and may not ever do so, the Democratic candidate for state rep from the district also represented by the Speaker of the NH House won a resounding victory, taking 59% of the vote, and carrying all 5 towns.
This is the first of three special elections for the NH House, which flipped so far from the previous Democratic majorities of the last 4 years that the GOP had veto-proof majorities in both houses. Before 2006, it had been over a hundred years since the Democrats had had the governorship and the legislature under their control.
Last fall was a horror show for us, and it hasn't gotten any better. All those crazy bills you hear about across the country we have here in NH and some of our versions are worse. So getting this under our belts feels awfully good. And knowing that people, at least some people, are paying attention helps a lot.
