The death of Osama bin Laden isn't the only reason we can be proud of President Obama.
I live in Dade County, which is a small county in the northwest corner of Georgia. Our little county was hit by three tornadoes last week, each doing significant damage, especially the EF3 tornado that tore a huge path through our county seat of Trenton.
After dealing with my problems and the problems of my immediate family for a few days, including being without power for over 100 hours, I went into Trenton today to help with cleaning up the damage done by the first tornado to one of our elementary schools. Essentially, one wing of the school was significantly damaged and what could be salvaged was moved elsewhere so we can begin setting up temporary classes somewhere else.
I'm proud of my little community, which has really turned out to help those in the most need. I'm also proud of nearby Catoosa County, where I teach, because their county seat, Ringgold, has suffered even more damage, including deaths and the loss of one middle school and high school.
Community support has been wonderful, as I said. But the organization and resources provided by FEMA and all the relief and charitable organizations has been FANTASTIC! As well as the work by all the utility companies.
We tend to complain a lot when what we want from government doesn't work right.
Well, for the past week, government has been working just right here, and I want to thank all those who have helped in some way, including everyone with the Southern Company, Red Cross, United Way, insurance companies, and a big thanks to FEMA and the President.
It actually can work folks, and we should stand up and give affirmation when it does.
