I love to read the inspiring diaries about people who have successfully stood up to bullies, liars and thugs.
If I could find any. Mostly I read diaries telling other people to stand up to bullies, liars and thugs. I hope they don't tell their kids that. I tell my kid to smile and walk away from bullies, and if you can't walk, run. It's just not true that bullies will always back down if you stand up to them. Especially if there's money and/or power involved.
I'm tired of hearing about how weak Democrats are. Let's see you do it! It's a corporatocracy, you can't get elected or re-elected without paying it some homage. The cost of running for president has reached a billion dollars, senate is at least 10 million and representatives spend at least a million. So are you going to raise that on the internet at 20 bucks a pop?
This last election here in Pennsylvania was disgusting. I could not turn on the radio or TV without hearing lies and smears against the Democratic candidates. Thank you, Supremes. So what were the spine-less Democrats supposed to do about that? I have no idea. Buy more airtime? I don't think there was any more airtime.
Remember Alan Grayson? He was everybody's favorite. He stood up to the bullies. When I had the temerity to ask "What are you going to say when he loses?", I was shouted down. "He's not going to lose!" Uh huh.
How many people do you suppose the Kochs would try to destroy in order to hold onto their money and power? How about Rush? Or the billionaire hedge fund managers who pay no taxes?
"But Bush did this and Bush did that, Obama is a coward" Bush was the corporatocracy! Some people can't see the difference. The president may be the most powerful man in the world but he's not the most powerful man in this country. We got this thing called balance of power in the government. And now we have the monied interest who have gained way too much power.
Do we have to fight this corporatocracy? Yes, it's totally anti-American. Unfettered capitalism leads to to an imbalance of power that this country is supposed to prevent. Do I expect every Democratic politician to do a "Braveheart" against it? No, they'd be slaughtered. They don't have the troops. Yet.
I don't expect this problem to go away in my lifetime. I'm getting old. I'm sure the kids will figure it out. Like most things, it will probably take as long to tear down as it did to build it up. What can I do in the meantime, a little activism, some support here and there and hold my nose and vote straight D every time.
