Using data from the CDC on fertility clinic success rates and the US Census, I created this map of the US I call "The United States of IVF". It details the per capita usage of IVF for each state. Each state's number is their number of IVF procedures performed per 100,000 people.
The original blog post contains the full state rankings for IVF use.
I find a few things about this map interesting:
1. The top IVF users in the country are in DC, with almost two times as many as the 2nd state, Massachusetts, which has universal health care.
2. All but two of the top ten states are in the east, on the coast. What's going on with that?
3. The states that order the fewest IVF's tend to be sparsely populated and have low household incomes.
What are your interpretations?
