I certainly hope this is goodbye.
Weiner is enough of a "fighter" to have stayed in his seat until it was ere..I mean election time but it appears that he is beginning to realize what he should have realized a long time ago.
Politics is a part of life it's not your life and one certainly is ill advised if they think they are the only one that can do the job effectively.
I don't doubt that he will run again or do something else with public policy somewhere down the road, but not this road.
I think today is a good day for Democratic politicians and voters. If Weiner steps down I think it speaks to the values of the Democratic party in a way that can not be verbalized by any politician.
Lots has been said here over the past couple of weeks about people forcing their morality on others. A lot has been made of the fact that his sex life is none of our business. A lot has been made of the fact that people calling for him to step down were obssessed with the sex act.
I don't care what people do with their private lives. Sharing photos with people outside of a marriage is not my thing but I don't think one is a bad person because of it, so long as they have their partners permission. Don't lie about it though, if you make a mistake, come clean, cause now it is my business.
Not because I want it to be, as I certainly don't but I can't turn on the TV without you defending what you know in your head and heart to be a lie. I'd never even heard the word "certitude" before he mentioned it and my attitude about what you did was the same then as it is now. Accept at one time I thought it was a hoax because I actually did believe he was a man of principle in politics and life and then I found out he lied about the whole thing and I realized he was someone just...like...me...
I've been a cheater, a liar, a faker, I've been all those things. I've let people have false confidence in me and my capabilities, I've talked a good game without really backing it up. I wouldn't trust that version of myself with a 10 foot pole and I don't trust him either.
It's not the cheating(i personally consider it cheating) that makes me think he should resign, it's not the pictures or who they were sent to. It's the lying, it's the trying to avoid getting in trouble, it's the waiting to see if he can still hold power. That's why I think he should go.
I've lived in NYC, I know people from NYC and I know that there are thousands of Anthony Weiners waiting in the wings to take his ever so safe seat and it looks like they are going to get the chance.
So Mr. Weiner, if you are truly about to step down it will be the best thing you have done in the past two weeks and maybe longer than that. Hit the bricks buddy, your parachute is golden anyway, so you know it's gonna be a landing softer than the millions of Americans that have lost their job.
woo-effin-hoo!!!!
Good luck to the next congressperson from his district and an extra special shout out to Nancy Pelosi and Debbie W-S for putting a powerful stamp on what I hope is the beginning of the end to the frat party BS, I know goes on in DC.
