Many of you know that we've been raising money for Vetwife. Our first goal was to replace her broken laptop. We've succeeded! Hooray!
Then a fellow Kossack suggested that the computer alone wasn't enough, that she needed software for said computer. So we fundraised a little more. That put Vetwife here:
I got a Dell 3 G ig used Laptop with a webcam but still figuring out if it has a inline microphone. No worries. I have a microphone. Ok first of all you guys are terrific. The puter was picked out last week and I have been have withdrawal from not being able to post on here very much plus frustrated with of all weeks needing much material for 3 veterans who needed assistance on consulation. I couldn't do it. I had to make some trips to the VA and could not lag the desktop that I couldn't see with me.
I got a great price on the puter A little over 500.00 plus a good warranty. 3 years. Not much software but will get it ASAP. I am working on getting a good Virus program as it has a McAfee but I do have Stopsign as well. Now...You folks have no clue how you have helped because as I told Angeljean and now will tell lilbear and Texasdem I may do a lot of work but like a hammer, I may be or a saw but you folks are like the ones providing the building materials. Nothing gets done without the saw, hammer and building materials. Just a vacant lot without ALL the talent and efforts of those who really are patriotic or genuine appreciative of those serving or have sacraficed in the line of duty or have returned home.
And then llbear had the best idea of all. He reminded us that Vetwife wouldn't have been in this situation in the first place if she hadn't lost her home and had to move. The costs associated with her real life situation seriously impacted her ability to work with Vets. He and TexDem have made it possible for us to defray her moving debt through NFTT. Our goal is to raise $3000. We've managed to raise $400.
And we have more good news - if you can donate as little as $5, you can help us get some matching donations... more below the fold.
We have two deals going on today.
First NMRed has offered an interesting match. For every $100 raised in small donations, he she will donate $25 - up to $125 total. So that means we need to see $500 in small donations by the end of the day. Think we can do that?
Then, if we manage to meet that $500, we have a second match offer!
If we can raise $200, then asym is willing to give another straight $200 match. Double your money.
That would be $625 + $400 and bring us to $1025 raised in just one day.
All of this money would be donated through the NFTT and Team Vetwife Moving Fund. We set up the team to make it very clear that your donation is aimed at the specifically at Vetwife and getting her back on her feet again.
Need a reason to donate? Here is a part of a comment left by Vetwife yesterday afternoon:
but thank you all that now I can type without going blind
or blinder from the fryed monitor of my husband's computer or without the library thinking I had taken up residence there.

I appreciate all the efforts that have been made on behalf of helping our most valuable resource..Our nation's veterans and active service members. I do so wish their needs were not so great and that this country would quit creating more veterans with endless wars but that is not the case.

I have had a run of bad luck and some banksters did not help my plight any on my efforts. With the generosity shown here I now am able to even more efficiently get the advocacy work sped up and am presently working with 3 vets who are in a very bad way. One is a Vietnam veteran who absolutely cannot do his job anymore and will lose all if not adequately compensated so we are working on that hearing.....and paperwork.
Another has done several tours of Afghanistan and Iraq and is calling at midnight very sure he does not need help but even without seeing a doc I know has PTSD. I am trying and working very hard in gettin him enrolled in the VA system. Another vet was injured in AIT and is about to lose his job and tries to work in constant pain and the VA keeps changing docs on him.
The Food stamp situation and military wives upset over constant deployment is wearing families down and currently consulting with a vet who just lost his wife and has his two children. My daughter is now babysitting for the family with hopes she can help out until we can get some things straightened out for him. His children are 2 and 4. The whole family has part time jobs and no one can watch the children with so many working few hours and desperately lacking some fundamental needs. That is another fight worth fighting. Everyday is a new story with another veteran or military family in need and it is with fewer options than I have ever seen.

Thanks you so much and glad you didn't have a pic of me on getting this news as my smile or face would have stopped clocks,,LOL....God Bless the Kossacks and the real great work of Netroots for the Troops !!!!!!
It is extremely humbling to be in your presence here.
So, how about it? Have $5 to donate so that Vetwife has a little less to worry about?
Thanks in advance to all you wonderful Kossacks out there!
PS - if you're not able to donate, a recommend would be great... we need lots of eyes to see this one!
PPS - This diary is in lieu of the MCM Openthread but there are two news updates the MCM community needs to know about:
- Welcome Home, aaraujo! He made it back from the desert safe and sound!
- And Get Well Soon, TexDem!!! If you hadn't heard, TexDem had some kidney stone issues and had to take a trip to the hospital. I'm not sure if he's in or out but I know he's anwering private messages, so he must be doing OK.
1:13 PM PT: Just heard from Vetwife and she had to take her husband to the hospital today - he had a dangerous fall and was admitted to the ER. They are going to release him and then she is taking him directly to the VA for a second diagnosis. She asks for our prayers!
1:15 PM PT: Donate to United Veterans of America. You'll need to click on the donate button that you find at this link... it won't let me link directly for some reason. Also, if you donate here, please let us know approximately how much so we can track donations to meet NMRed's match! I can't see these donations like I can for NFTT. Also, donations to this site will only be applied to expenditures for the Non-profit, not personal moving expenses of Vetwife and family. She can't misappropriate funds.
1:26 PM PT: Comment from Vetwife down below:
Thank you all so much for what (1+ / 0-)
you are doing. I just posted to Anglejean I am not on here much today. My vet is at that local hospital about to be transferred to the VA. I am running today. He fell at 5:00 AM this morning. Had him on oxygen about two hours ago and running MRI'.s He was in so much pain with his peripheal neuropathy or spinal stenosis and was gonna take him to the VA this week anyway but they had better get a concerete diangosis on him.....Now they are dealing with me hard because I am upset over his falling. I will be kicking butts and taking names over my own vet. The VA is a good facility but it is a constant battle to get the right treatment program.Especially after a move from one facility to another.
Love you guys !!!!! When I get to the Gainesville VA I am quite sure I will run into other vets as normal to keep this puter buzzin !!!!!!
We the People have to make a difference and the Change.....Just do it ! Help a vet ....http://unitedveterans.aimoo.com

1:36 PM PT: Comment from llbear with update on TexDem:
UPDATE FROM TEXDEM: (1+ / 0-)
He's stuck at the Minneapolis Airport, in pain, with another hour's wait expected. He is thrilled with your support for Angelajean. It's like another packing day without all the work!
Bring them home now. It's long past time

1:47 PM PT: 35% of total goal! That means we're super close to today's goal as well. Keep those donations coming in folks!
4:00 PM PT: We've reached 41% of our $2500 goal - I hope for $15 more dollars in small donations to grab that last $25 from NMRed tonight. But, for now, we've raised, $1021 on just the NFTT site with other unknown donations to the paypal link.
Thanks to all of you have been so generous with Recommends and Donations. Keep it up for a little longer and we may get just a little bit more for Vetwife this evening!
4:24 PM PT: Today's goal has been met! We've managed to raise $1036 for Vetwife today... and that's without knowing any donations to the Paypal account. Once NMRed and asym add their matches, we'll have raised $1286!
I'm calling it a night... it's 8:30pm Argentina time and it's time to get my guys thinking about sleep. We'll take more donations if they come and I'll give my thanks for those tomorrow!!
