Sorry folks, but I have to brag a bit. Meet the Press used my tweet on the possible return of the Taliban on today's show.
I'm a bit blown away by this, considering I hammered David Gregory on Twitter for most of the show! He was kissing so much Chris Christie ass that Governor Soprano's strechmarks were embedded on Gregory's face!
But I digress. There is an important issue here, and it's one many of us don't want to talk about; what will happen to Afghan women when the US pulls out of Afghanistan?
First, the tweet: https:/mobile.twitter.com#!/SmokinJoeWGNU/status/84978408433532928 @SmokinJoeWGNU David Rohde's quote on #mtp was spot on. The Taliban will be emboldened when US pulls out. I worry about the Afghan women with talibs
Or something like that. I'm on a smartphone & I'm not so good with the cut & paste function. Go check the tweet out for yourself.
Now, don't get me wrong, I don't think our country should be in Afghanistan any more. I'm generally against military action of this type. Bush didn't really care what happened there after the initial invasion and put an incredibly corrupt ex-oil executive in charge. It's been downhill ever since.
And, like so many other things, he left it for Obama to clean up the mess.
But, I still worry about what will happen with the return of the Taliban and how it will affect the well being of the Afghan Women. Burkas. Closed schools. Women starving to death because they have no male family member to "escort" them to buy food.
Food! Fucking food!
I know, I know. There are "no good options" here. However, my late bra burning mother is screaming at me in the back of my brain, telling me that a huge injustice toward women looms large.
I am genuinely torn on this.
What is the answer?
