“Welcome, Welcome Back, or Welcome Home. GUS as you are willing and able.”
It's Τ-Day or is it τ-Day? Maybe it's tau-day . . .
GUS (Gave Up Smoking) is a community support diary for Kossacks in the midst of quitting smoking. Any supportive comments, suggestions or positive distractions are appreciated. We avoid discussion of political issues. If you are quitting or even thinking about quitting, please -- join us! GUS Library at dKosopedia is organically evolving, and stocked with free-range information: quit-smoking links, helpful GUS diary writing tips, and the GUS buddy list.
A message to ALL quitters: you don't have to avoid GUS if you have a failed quit. We won't give you a bad time and we consider the failed quits as "practice" for the real quit. Follow the GUS tag to keep GUS in your Stream.

Forget about Pi Day, today we celebrate something twice as good: Tau Day. For far too long, Pi has been the bride and Tau has been the bridesmaid. As Michael Hartl points out in The Tau Manifesto, "Pi is a confusing and unnatural choice for the circle constant." He is giving a talk at the California Institute of Technology based on the Manifesto, with pie served at the end. "Twice as many as you might expect," he says.
We haz a bit of meta this week. We are allowed to own our tag, GUS, to a certain extent, as follows. We can obviously add it to our own community diaries. We cannot prevent it from being used in meta-diaries about the GUS group.
I have, after reading these critiques... (26+ / 0-)
...decided that my decision was unwise. And I have retracted it.

Would it be correct to assume that this only
applies to tags that are clearly group associated and, if so, can groups try to spell out a group tag policy? GUS for instance is rather flexible. GUSsacks tend to tag diaries of interest provided that they are not divisive. We don't get involved with the details of pack warnings, free speech, libertarianism . . .

Anyway, I think that as long as we don't tag pie fight diaries we won't have any trouble. I will continue to tag diaries that I plan to republish to gussians or that I think GUSsacks might be interested in particularly if I see a diary about tobacco or someone discussing quitting. We can have a group policy regarding the GUS tag and unless there is criticism I propose that this be it:
The GUS group is tag based. That is, we self identify by following the GUS tag and would prefer that it be used only for that purpose, by GUSsacks.
DisGUS in the comments and I'll make changes as agreed. Afterward I'll post it in the Library.
There are now somewhere between one and two billion GUSsacks. If you've had some experience with the effects of smoking, and want to write a GUS diary or host an open thread drop a note in the Butt Can or Can't. Bold indicates regularly scheduled diarists.
