On June 5th, a group of Palestinian protestors marched to the ceasefire line between Syria and Israeli-occupied territories. UPI is reporting that 22 people were killed and over 225 people were injured, according to Syrian sources. Soysauce wrote a diary detailing the incident.
On June 6th, there were to the protests, but the target of these protests was not Israel. . .
In Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp, a funeral was held for the activists killed in the Naksa Day protest. These funerals turned into protests and eventually became violent. It is not entirely clear what is happening, but this report from Al-Jazeera helps explain what is happening:
Mourners at Yarmouk accused the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), the group organising Sunday's protest, of inciting young people to put themselves in the firing line. The headquarters of the group in Yarmouk was burnt down.
It is not clear exactly how many people have been hurt since Syria does not allow media access to its country, especially in light of the Syrian Arab Spring.
All we know so far is that there have been violent protests in response to the Naksa Day protests. The issue appears to be that the PFLP manipulated teenagers and young people to participate in these protests and thus PFLP put them in harm's way.
I will try to update as more information becomes available.
Update: I am sorry that this diary title change led people to believe that I was suggesting that the deaths in the refugee camp was Israel's fault. I just did not think people knew about the Naksa Day protest deaths. I hope that this change is more clear.
