You are in the 198th Witness Revolution diary, bearing witness to pro-democracy movements in North Africa, the Middle East and beyond. We aim here to simply report, from as many reliable worldwide resources as possible, on the successes, challenges or failures of the brave people striving against oppression for representative democracy with civil and human rights. One small bit of assurance that they do not strive in obscurity.
TODAY'S HIGHLIGHTS
BAHRAIN
It cannot be highlighted enough how inhumane the detention and torture of health care providers is. It is a monstrous tactic which, according to this report from the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, has been employed by the Bahraini government since early in the protest movement and continues today:
Stephen Soldz, President of Psychologists for Social Responsibility (PsySR), stated recently, "We cannot be silent. Many of our members are health providers. The government of Bahrain has arrested nearly 50 doctors and other health providers, many of whom have been tortured. Their 'crime' is refusing to let injured protesters die and informing the world press about the abuses they witnessed. “
We'll highlight the faces of the health care providers as we find them:
Rula Alsafar(Chairman of Bahrain Nurse Society)
Dr.Ali AlEkri (Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon)
LIBYA
A new video has surfaced which shows how Gaddafi forces entered the town of Az-Zawiyah back in March. The mosque shown in the video was later razed to the ground.
I was struck by the sound of it. At one point you get a real hit of how loud it is if you're right there.

YEMEN
An appalling turn of events in Sana'a, Yemen we hear from a
Yemeni blogger:
I had a call today from someone in Alhasba saying they had rotten bodies on the street and they dont know how to deliver them out! because the partys cant agree on what s a neutral car to pass in
Confirmed by HOOD via Yemen Rights Monitor
What is happening is a serious affront to human dignity, especiallly with the frequency of eye witnesses reports that Hood received on the existence of dead bodies lying on the pavement of the road, and others in the abandoned buildings that families have left or that have died inside of them as a result of the heavy shelling which hit the region.
WARNING: GRAPHIC PHOTOS (video documentation was removed by YouTube for being too graphic.)
An Observation: The video documentation of this was removed by YouTube and so was a very horrifying video documenting the body of a young man who had been tortured for 19 days before dying in Syria. YouTube has a policy about graphic violence - which I appreciate - bad had been convinced that what was coming out of the revolutions was evidence which needed a place to be housed. So, for a while, we were not seeing these removals. They had become the de fact repository for this humanitarian effort. I wonder if they have changed their mind. If so, it's a shame. However, it brings up a question of how, we as a human race, make sure that there is a place or more than one, which is known and accessible, for people in these situations to send their material. This evidence is very vulnerable if it cannot be saved outside of the country of origin. And the horrors being experienced need to be seen by the world, in hopes of raising a universal determination to stop the crimes and have the ability to pursue justice.

(h/t UnaSpenser 4/14 ) -
JIBOUTI: WHY NO ONE CARESsection of article which covers pro-democracy movements throughout Africa
Whilst the world was watching Cote d'Ivoire, Egypt and Libya, Djibouti had an election on 8 April. With no opposition, a state-controlled media and no civil society movement, it was easy enough for President Omar Guelleh to change the constitution allowing him to run for a third term - thereby continuing 35 year rule by the same family. But this little dictatorship is strategically central to the US Africa Command (2,000 US troops are based here) and the NATO countries. Unlike in Libya, Djibouti's 1 million population can expect no support from the West in their small attempts to have a voice.

To jump or not to jump? For Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, that has become the question.
Not long ago, Mr. Ahmadinejad was regarded as the most powerful of the five presidents the Islamic Republic in its three decades of existence.
With the opposition "green" movement almost silenced, his administration faced no serious challenge within the Khomeinist movement establishment. Ahmadinejad also marked some success selling his doctrine of "Iranian Islam" as a substitute for the hotchpotch concocted by Ayatollah Khomeini. Translated into 30 languages, his authorised biography, "Ahmadinejad: The Miracle of the Century", was supposed to have sold a million copies.

NOTE: We renamed the original "Egypt Liveblog" to "Witnessing Revolution". From Egypt the pro-democracy fire spread rapidly. It's not clear that it will be limited by geography or ethnicity. So, we wanted a name which states what is happening yet allows us to grow with the movement, wherever that will be. The number sequence will be continuous. The group name will remain the same. Only this particular diary series within the group changed names.
