Revealing the 2011 winner is part of a three-day series of events featuring finalists, special guests, members of our esteemed jury, and our colleagues from the BFI community.

Blue Ventures -- Improving the livelihoods of the world’s poorest coastal communities while conserving the biodiversity of threatened marine environments.
FrontlineSMS--Enabling social organizations in undeveloped regions around the world to leverage the power and reach of mobile technology.
Participatory Mapping in the Congo Basin -- Empowering forest communities to use cutting edge mapping technologies to prevent deforestation and alleviate poverty.
TARA Akshar+ - Delivering rapid literacy programs to millions of impoverished women in India.
The evening will kick off with a keynote talk by Doors of Perception founder and internationally renowned design pioneer, John Thackara.

Urban Solution Sets - Visionary Strategies for the Future of Cities:
As a result of reviewing entries through the unique lens of the Buckminster Fuller Challenge criteria, we have been able to identify extraordinary examples of comprehensive, integrated strategies that address the urban environment. What has emerged is a pattern of relationships across these urban solutions that imply a level of corporation and synergy not being discussed, taught or practiced. For this event we will be bringing together urban educators, artist, planners and developers to explore the notion of urban solution sets as a framework to consider advancement around practices that impact the generation/regeneration of our cities.

Join us for the Announcement, Conferring Ceremony and Celebration of the Winner of the 2011 Buckminster Fuller Challenge!
Recently identified as Socially Responsible Design’s Highest Award, the Challenge is the world's only large prize program rewarding integrated, whole-systems approaches to solving the world’s sustainability crises. The winner will receive a $100,000 prize to support the development and implementation of their strategy to solve humanity's complex and entrenched problems.
The program will include a presentation of the winning solution and keynote speech by one of the world’s thought leaders in environmental design; distinguished professor and author, David Orr.
