Why doesn't victory over Republicans include plans to destroy the GOP?
The thing that strikes me when meditating on the laughable status of what passes for political debate in this country is the vulnerability of the right to complete destruction.
In general terms, the midwest is very hard hit by the recession. People out of work, people stuck in jobs they are overqualified for, and the lucky ones who kept their jobs throughout. At first, people circled the wagons. The mantra being, "protect yourself, take care of number one" Then things started getting worse. Hard working responsible people were forced to see that they were only a pink slip away from food stamps. Things are changing...for the better.
Never underestimate the power of good people in large numbers.
I was chatting with a person in the convenience store in Lee's Summit, Missouri today. He indicated to me that he had to take in his cousin and her baby because she couldn't find enough work to pay the rent. I heard another person talk about her getting help from her church choir to pay the rent when she lost her job. We have so little, but so much in our friends and families. We are organizing relief benefit concerts for Joplin. We are freely giving what we have, because, we know that the next hand out might be at the end of our arms!
We are puling together and eating dinner at home again with our families. We are looking for redemption in the opportunity to provide for ourselves and the people around us. We are united in hardship. Why are the politicians profiting on our misery still in office?
The more they try to take the more their jobs are at risk. They may please the fanatical few for a moment. However, what happens when they take in their cousin and watch how hard they work for what little they get? What happens when their parents start moving in and they have to help them get to the bathroom three times a night? Will they change their minds about it when it directly affects them? Help me out Dr. Funkenstein (or Langston Hughes)
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
Any person who stands against the poor, sadly stands against most of us. The Republican party consistently reminds us where they stand. They are betting on the house on the wrong horse!! Here's to the complete destruction of the Republican party!! Illusions are only as good as the magician and these guys suck!
