Narcissist and lazy-ass (Jim Young/Reuters)
From the
New York Times:
Mr. McConnell portrayed his proposal as a last-stand way to spare Republicans from being blamed for a default if no alternative plan can be approved.
Recounting how the 1995 government shutdown helped President Bill Clinton win re-election the following year, Mr. McConnell said any impasse that drove down the nation’s credit rating and led to government checks being delayed could have the same result for Mr. Obama.
“He will say Republicans are making the economy worse,” Mr. McConnell said in an interview with the conservative radio host Laura Ingraham. “It is an argument that he could have a good chance of winning, and all of the sudden we have co-ownership of the economy. That is a very bad position going into the election.”
It's nice to know that even now, Mitch McConnell has a keen sense of what's really important. Screw the economy: what we need here is to avoid doing anything that will help Obama. And what we really don't want is for the Republicans to have "co-ownership" of the economy.
Good God, do these people even care what they sound like? The Republicans are one of the two major parties in the United States. They currently are in charge of the House, and nearly half the Senate. Mr. McConnell, your party does have co-ownership of the economy. The whole point of being a freaking member of the House or the Senate is to have ownership over the nation's economy. You're supposed to do something about it, not huddle in a corner and hope the other guys take all the heat or credit for whatever's actually going on in the damn world.
Do your damn job already! If you won't do it to help the economy, if you won't do it for the American people, and you won't even do it just because It's Your Goddamn Actual Job, then do it because otherwise people might actually start to figure out how ridiculously petty you are!
