Imagine that Barack Obama had swept into office and named bold progressives to his cabinet, fired the neocons and the Bushites, declared that universal single-payer was the coming thing in health care, announced the investigation and prosecution of all criminal wrong-doing of the previous administration, arrested the ring-leaders on Wall Street and promised the American people that the change that they yearned for and voted for would, as promised, happen on his watch. How do you think the 2010 elections would have gone then?
Imagine the President explaining that we simply cannot afford all of these military misadventures when the financial circumstances of most Americans are bad and getting worse.
Imagine that Wall Street firms shown to have engaged in misconduct were heavily fined and otherwise subjected to the legal consequences of their actions.
Imagine that climate change, renewable energy, ocean acidification, rainforest depletion, chemical pollution and the solving of other looming problems were made first level priorities.
Imagine that the USA quit torturing people and running secret prisons, and instead became a force for good in the world.
Imagine they stopped stealing our jobs, our homes, our futures.
Imagine that our government quit lying to us.
