Via The American Independent, this is sickening:
A four-year pending criminal case against a Planned Parenthood clinic in Overland Park, Kans., has been scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 24-27 to determine whether evidence supports 107 charges (including 23 felonies) against Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri, reports the Kansas City Star.
Former Kansas District Attorney Phill Kline initially filed the lawsuit in 2007, accusing the affiliate of falsifying records and performing illegal late-term abortions; assistant county prosecutor Chris McMullin is now leading the case.
Let's stop right there. This investigation is the result of Phill Kline's initial lawsuit? The same Phill Kline who is still being investigated for ethics violations, including "breaches of trust of his public office"? That Phill Kline? The same Phill Kline who devoted his entire term as state attorney general to harassing and investigating Dr. George Tiller and his patients? The same Phill Kline who went on Bill O'Reilly's show to talk about his ongoing investigation, including private medical records, in violation of the state Supreme Court's direction that he "resist any impulse to further publicize the respective legal positions"? That guy? Yup. Carry on:
The Kansas affiliate is facing the type of scrutiny anti-abortion rights activists and certain members of Congress wish upon Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). Last week, eight Republican representatives met at a press conference with officials from the public-interest law firm Americans United for Life (AUL), which recently released a report citing criminal allegations against Planned Parenthood and its affiliates. Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.) said she and some of her colleagues are working on launching an investigation against the health care and abortion provider but could not identify any specific plans for action.
Of course, as discussed last week, the report on Planned Parenthood's "wrongdoings" is nothing more than a collection of fabrications, like Planned Parenthood's failure to advise its patients of the debunked and nonexistent medical "risks" of abortion. But for zealots like AUL and Kline and the House Republicans who consider such an investigation the most pressing issue of the day, those fabrications are evidence enough that Planned Parenthood should be investigated.
And now Operation Rescue is patting itself on the back for finally succeeding in its years-long mission to bully the courts into investigating Planned Parenthood, even if it means publicizing private medical records, not to mention wasting taxpayer dollars on a stupid and costly investigation that will no doubt prove, as all other investigations of this kind have done, that—shudder, gasp!—Planned Parenthood provides health care to women.
This has nothing to do with regulating health care. It has nothing to do with protecting women. It has nothing to do with justice. It's all part of Operation Rescue's agenda to deny women access to health care, by any means necessary—including pushing for bogus investigations, installing its attorney on the state board that regulates abortion providers, and of course providing information to assassin Scott Roeder, through its senior policy adviser, convicted terrorist Cheryl Sullenger, to make sure that its stated purpose of having its headquarters in Wichita—to put Dr. George Tiller out of business—succeeds. Which, tragically, it did.
So really, it's just more of the same from the "pro-life" terrorists. Threats, intimidation, ethical violations, terrorism, and even murder—all in the name of life.
