Heat index yesterday in my Southern MN town was 118 degrees. Each of he last two days the state dew point all time high record of 86 has been tied. The record was held by my town, and now it is just shared with a few other places around the state.
The heat index in Madison MN yesterday was 123. For MN that is fucking hot. I lived 9 years in the Augusta, GA area, and that kind of heat is not out of the ordinary. It's like that most of the summer.
When we lived in the Deep South I'd tell my Upper Midwest acquaintances that Augusta had two seasons - spring and hell.
Well hell has moved up North for awhile.
Got in from picking red and black raspberries about 45 minutes ago. The heat index when I called it quits was 102. I'm a pretty obsessive raspberry picker. No matter what the size I'll pick em, but it's just toooooooooooo hot. So I'm not going to get them all this year. Maybe it's got something to do with the 80 or so pints I've already got in the freezer. And we've got so many berries because of the torrential rainfall we've had this past year. As of today, we are past the average monthly rainfall amount for July.
Anyhow, are these kinds of scorching heatwaves going to produce any results on enacting policies that will begin to mitigate climate change? Certainly not with so many of the morons we've got in Congress right now, but climate deniers are going to have a hard time denying this extreme weather.
So what's the weather like where you are? And hey, if you are in Hawaii...............STFU already!
If you are in the heatwave area, how hot's it been, and how hot's it going to be?
Live blogging is kind of a misstatement. It's more like slow cooking.
As they quipped on the Weather Channel yesterday, I've got to go take a hot shower to cool down.
