From wikipedia:
Oran's Dictionary of the Law (1983) defines treason as "...[a]...citizen's actions to help a foreign government overthrow, make war against, or seriously injure the [parent nation]." In many nations, it is also often considered treason to attempt or conspire to overthrow the government, even if no foreign country is aided or involved by such an endeavor.
I repeat:
it is also often considered treason to attempt or conspire to overthrow the government, even if no foreign country is aided or involved by such an endeavor.
So when do we start calling the Republicans out for their treasonous actions in attempting to destroy the US government? Grover Norquist has stated this intent many times and the Republican party is now adopting Norquist as its patron saint.
Surely there must be some point at which the Republicans will have stepped over the line. And I will add that when a political party is able to legally shut down the government then there is something very wrong. You may well claim that the Republicans own the House of Representatives which is designed to pronounce the will of the majority. But our nation was not supposed to be susceptible to mob rule.
Everywhere we see the Senate as the more stable institution "able to withstand heated populism.
"Should Experience or public opinion require an equal and universal suffrage for each branch of the Government such as prevails generally in the U.S., (then) a resource favorable to the rights of landed and other property, when its possessors become the Minority, may be found in the enlargement of the Election Districts for ONE branch of the Legislature and a prolongation of its period of service. Large districts are manifestly favorable to the election of persons of general respectability, and of probable attachment to the rights of property, over competitors depending on the personal solicitations practicable on a contracted theater. And although an ambitious candidate, of personal distinction, might occasionally recommend himself to popular choice by espousing a popular though unjust object, it might rarely happen to many districts at the same time. The tendency of a longer period of service would be, to render the Body more stable in its policy, and more capable of stemming popular currents taking a wrong direction, till reason and justice could regain their ascendancy." -- Madison
But because of the Senate and the veto pen, the current design of out government only works for conservatives and corporate whores. For when the more progressive elements of the society are able to secure the House then the Senate and the veto pen block any advance.
When conservative elements take over the House (as now), the Senate nor the president's veto pen is a counterbalance to protect our nation from utter destruction. The House of Representatives can employ the budget process to shut down the government as the Republicans have done before and threatened to do this last April. There is NOTHING the president or the Senate or the Supreme Court can do about such willful hostage taking. But the "debt limit crises" paints this design failure in bold and living color. Not only are the Republicans willing to shut down the government s they just did in Minnesota, They are willing to destroy the credit of the government and to impoverish millions of people who have their savings and retirement benefits locked up in Treasuries. At what point grand larceny?. In order to "save the nation", the president is going to have to be extremely presidential. And what that will mean is that he will have to supersede the current conflicting laws of the Congress and declare the current "debt limit" law unenforceable (which it is due to its conflict with the 2011 budget signed into law in April, and with other laws). This should have already happened but it hasn't. Our government is not broken. It is being allowed to fail by the current president in the interest of "bipartisanship" and the president's own desire to "mend" the divided nation. But like it or not, the president is going to be forced to declare war just as Lincoln declared war. This declaration is a test of constitutionality. At what point does a rogue portion of our government become treasonous?
Attend:
The president:
Cannot raise taxes
Cannot sell Yosemite National Park to the Koch brothers
Cannot fund the legally budgeted deficit in any way other than selling Treasury debt.
Must comply with the spending in the budget.
The only way I know of to "see to the faithful execution of the laws" is with Treasury seignorage employed specifically to retire Treasury debt held on the books of the FED. As those debts are retired then the "head room" for further Treasury sales is created. This is the only LEGAL option that does not require any actions by the dysfunctional congress.
