Well I am sure this might upset some here, and interest others. I just think everyone here could do well to remember that posting when you're upset can lead you to say things you might not otherwise say under a calmer head.
As I grew up I had a view pounded into my head. That view is that upset, angry, distraught, sad and/or depressed people NEVER make good decisions. They always tend to be reactionary. Though by definition I am not referring to what people would view as a Conservative political reactionary, but as someone who just reacts without really thinking about the consequences of their actions.
How many of us have been frustrated with The President at one time or another? I know I have. Now how many of us may have taken that frustration and expressed it in a written form. Expressing it in rather hyperbolic language such as he has sold us out. Which on a rational level is pretty silly. Now how many here have ratcheted it up or seen someone ratchet it up to the level where they use distasteful terms such as “Uncle Tom?”
The problem I see is that some people on this site are getting SOOOO angry with The President that they fail to see they are on occasion doing The Right’s dirty work for them. Now some will present substantive criticism of The President, and much of it deserved. However there is this distinct other group that just bash on The President ad nauseam to the point of being a clichéd punchline.
I remember the Ex-Pat’s diary that I stuck my nose in. Personally I feel that people who ditch out on the country when we need strong Liberals is basically abandoning your family, friends and neighbours. Now openly admit to being a bit confrontational in my debating style. Nevertheless I noticed a small faction of individuals who became really upset with me and just repeatedly told me that “This country is doomed, and you’re only deluding yourself if you think you can make a difference.”
I am going to say this, I WANT people with that attitude to leave. I don’t want that negativity in my country. It’s no more welcome than that which comes from The Right. I am not interested in a defeatist agenda, and I am certainly not interested in doomsayers. I am fed up with it and I am sure I am not the only one.
Another issue I have a problem with is just how quickly some here are willing to throw out the Right Wing Plant accusation when there is even a mild disagreement. The single issue dominance bullshit needs to stop. People get wrapped up in just one issue, it ends up being all they care about and ends up shaping their perception of others political motives. Also accusations like that without evidence to back it up is just silly and paranoid. Let's leave the delusions to The Right.
I will finish it up with this, if you truly believe that the current period of US History is the worst period of it’s existence, you need to crack a book. We have sucked it up through worse situations before. So I am officially casting aside the doomsayers. You can moan and cry all you want about how the world is coming to an end, it’s not. Soon the current batch of doomsayers will join those carnival barkers from the 1860s and 1930s. I just hope they realize how clichéd and repetitive they sound.
2:25 AM PT: Just for clarifications sake since it seemed to have flown right over some others heads. no one is saying you shouldn't get angry. It's the ridiculous levels at which some of you get angry that is just plain silly. Just don't expect to not be called out on it anymore. As I have said before, it's like listening to children bitch over which video game system is better.
Though I do find it funny I post a diary on anger and the first two responses are angry comments about how they have every right to be as angry as they want.
9:47 AM PT: Wow, you sure are an angry pack of people. Notice it's the same 2-3 people? I always took a small chuckle at how when you call out people for acting like children, five gets you ten they will respond like children with angry name calling and insinuations of naivete.
