I have a job!
It is a part-time job, it isn't a great job, it pays a lot less than what I used to make......it's in retail but I HAVE A JOB!
More below...
I have always worked in B2B software sales & marketing. In particular, lately, I've been working in partner marketing for SEO, email campaigns, telemarketing campaigns, large event management, etc.... I left a really good job a couple of years ago because my wife and I moved out of state for her job. I was OK with that. It was a good job for her. When you ignore Utah's redness it looked like a nice state to live in with lots of outdoor fun for us.
Unfortunately, it didn't quite work out for us on many levels. I wasn't able to find a job and just did some contract work for my old company when I could get it. Eventually we moved back to Seattle so she could take some new work. We made the decision this would be better and get me back in a big tech market.
Since we have been back, I've had many job interviews, made it to the final round but was always in second place. :( My wife had the good idea that I look for a retail job while I'm looking for a job in my career. It would get me out of the house, maybe meet new people, make new contacts, just let me help bring in some money, etc...
I applied for a retail job at a few well known stores that we liked, Whole Foods, REI, Best Buy, two computer stores, a few local stores we like, etc... If I was going to get a retail job, we wanted one where I could get a discount we would buy from anyway.
4 weeks after applying, I received a call from THE COMPANY(I won't say who I work for) and they brought me in for several interviews. Finally, they called and offered me a part-time job! o/ WOOO HOOO!
I'm now in training and I like the people I'll be working with. They are all really smart, fun, interesting, diverse, and I'm actually kind of excited. I think this will be a good part-time job while I still look for another job. I'm just excited to have a job, any kind of job again!
While, I'm excited about this job, I have to say:
KOS, GIVE ME A FRACKING JOB WORKING FOR DAILY KOS! :)
