Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI)
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, one of the three House Republicans named to the 12-member deficit committee created by the debt limit deal,
tells Reuters that he doesn't want to rule anything in or out, including tax policy:
"I don't want to rule anything in or out," Camp said. "I am willing to discuss all issues that might help us reduce our short and long-term debt and grow our economy," Camp said.
"Everything is on the table, until we as a group rule it out," he said. The economy and jobs are priorities, he added.
"Economic growth and job creation in the private sector -- that's what we need to use as a benchmark about any policy, but particularly tax policy," Camp said.
Now, I don't believe for a second that Camp is going to seriously consider doing something meaningful on revenues—something like effectively rolling back the Bush high-income tax cuts. But I wonder how long it will take teabagger heads to explode at his willingness to pretend that "everything is on the table."
