with this whole debt ceiling circus just about behind us, with all the ranting and screaming and threatening to quit, not vote, whatever.....
There is something that still bothers me, makes me angry in fact.
Not that the President doesn't deserve some blowback, but to entirely place the blame on him and him alone, is ridiculous.
Besides the absolutely crazy people who are guiding the Congress, the Democrats are to blame- especially the Senate and the House.
But........
this is what we forget.
Before the mid- term elections, President Obama asked Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi to take up the budget, especially the debt ceiling. He advised them to get it done while the Democrats still had a majority in both houses of Congress.
They hesitated. He asked again. He outlined a framework.
They did not want to do anything which might upset their reelection chances. Reid especially was adamant about leaving it until after the election.
So they did nothing. Nothing.
And yet, many of those Democrats so easily now point their fingers at President Obama.
Not that he couldn't have done more, but leaving this debt ceiling until the summer recess, there are bills on trade and transportation and jobs that should have, and now will not be discussed.
While a lot of people share the blame for the dysfunction in Congress, let's not forget that the Democratic leaders could have and did not take care of business when they should have.
