Shocking!
Vice President Joe Biden joined House Democrats in lashing tea party Republicans Monday, accusing them of having “acted like terrorists” in the fight over raising the nation’s debt limit, according to several sources in the room.
Biden was agreeing with a line of argument made by Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) at a two-hour, closed-door Democratic Caucus meeting.
“We have negotiated with terrorists,” an angry Doyle said, according to sources in the room. “This small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.”
Biden, driven by his Democratic allies’ misgivings about the debt-limit deal, responded: “They have acted like terrorists.”
Duh, right? Republicans openly, blatantly, unapologetically threatened to crash the economy unless they got every single petulant demand met, no matter how unreasonable or harmful to the American people they pretend they care about. You know what? "Terrorist" is a polite word for what these people are.
But facts be damned. Cue the Republican outrage fundraising:
Michele Bachmann last night sent a fundraising email about Vice President Joe Biden's "terrorists" line, citing a POLITICO report on the meeting where the comment was made and saying:
The Democrats have stooped to a new low. This afternoon, Vice President Joe Biden reportedly led a congressional meeting where Tea Party members were labeled as "terrorists."
Only in the bizarro world of Washington is fiscal responsibility sometimes defined as terrorism.
And if you're as outraged and offended as Michele is, and you're just a regular plain ol' American who loves fiscal responsibility, please donate "any amount up to the $2,500 limit." Show your disapproval of this uncivil discourse. And don't even think about trying to remember which member of Congress said this:
“What I would say is that the news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look. I wish they would. I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out, are they pro-America or anti-America? I think the American people would love to see an expose like that.”
On Obama she said, “Absolutely, I’m very concerned that he may have anti-American views.”
Sorry, Michele, but Biden didn't stoop to a new low, 'cause honey, you carved that space out years ago.
Meanwhile, increasingly desperate to get her increasingly irrelevant name in the headlines, Sarah Palin is chiming in too:
"What we're feeling is that growing more debt isn't going to get us out of debt and raising taxes in a down economy is a bad idea, and we're taking a stand in light of those," she said. "And so to be called a terrorist because of our beliefs from the vice president, it's quite appalling. It's quite vile."
Okay. A, she clearly has no idea what she's talking about. Nothing new there. And B:
Our opponent though, is someone who sees America it seems as being so imperfect that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country?
Appalling! Vile!
