I wish I could find the right words to describe the state of the U.S. news media. The easiest analysis of course would lead me to state the obvious and point out that the whole enterprise is a cheesy propaganda machine for the tiny group of Oligarchs that control this country, and whose success is measured by the degree to which they have been able to dumb-down the population, distort reality, and spread misinformation and lies. The exact opposite of what an above-board news media should do.
But of course, it is so because that is exactly the reason they bought off the politicians so any restrictions of media conglomeration in the greasy and greedy hands of a few corporations would be removed, so they could take control of the entire media landscape in order to use it as a propaganda apparatus. And so they have.
This situation is so absurd, that one must must be very creative in trying to describe the effects of this charade that is the U.S. news media on the collective mind of an entire society...
The whole affectation with which they deliver the news. Wait it minute, is that extremely good-looking woman news anchor with heavy makeup, evening party-going made up hair and dress, for real? Is this a joke?
The "news reporters" out there desperately looking for heavy winds and rain so they can stand there fighting to stand straight against the wind, while holding on to their CNN red baseball caps, and tell us how dangerous the situation is, while giggling at the excitement of being out there battling mother nature.
The scary sounding sound tracks use to announce the upcoming reports, the sensational graphics, the phony affectation and emphasis, their obvious disappointment at not being able to report a sensational story, like the Statue of Liberty being lifted from her pedestal by a powerful wind gust from a category 4 hurricane.
The same thing happens every minute, every hour, every day, every week. A collective barrage of inane, superfluous, formulaic and cheesy misinformation specifically designed to keep its consumer ignorant and dumb.
But getting back to trying to come up with a way to describe the absurdity that is the U.S. media (all of it, all the channels, including MSNBC in the final analysis), one apt analogy would be the movie The Truman show, with Jim Carrey. While the real world, and reality, and important issues that if known and properly reported could make a difference, America lives within the bubble of fiction as depicted in this very insightful movie.
The only thing is that this is not a funny movie, in the final analysis.
