Your disaster ravaged town is now being taken hostage by the GOP.
Remember this? It's from one of the GOP Presidential Nominee debates BEFORE the earthquake and Hurricane Irene hit. Just listen as Mitt Romney (R-Rich people) explains why it immoral to use American tax dollars to save American lives or to rebuild America.
The shorter version is "Don't have natural disasters, and if you do, die quickly."
Romney: "Absolutely. Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that's the right direction, and if you can go even further and send it back to the private sector, that's even better. Instead of thinking in the federal budget what can we cut, we should ask ourselves the opposite question, what should we keep? We should take all of what we are doing at the federal level and say 'What are the things we are doing that we don't have to do?' and those things we gotta stop doing, because we are borrowing $1.6 Trillion dollars more this year than we are taking in. "
Debate Moderator: "We need disaster relief, though?"
Romney: "We can not, we can not afford to do those things without jeopardizing the future for our kids. It is simply immoral, in my view for us to continue to rack up larger and larger debts and pass them on to our kids, knowing full well that we'll all be dead and gone before it's paid off. Makes no sense at all."
Because we refuse to raise taxes on massively profitable corporations and rich people, your city had to drown. Sorry. Romney reminds me of Dan Akyroyd in "Tommy Boy" when he says, "America's in a state of renewal, sometimes you gotta have the strength to tie a few factories to a tree and bash em with a shovel." Taxes must NEVER go up, spending MUST be cut, and if a natural disaster hits your town it isn't immoral to tell you to figure it out yourself, what's immoral is spending your tax dollars to help you.
How dare we leave our children the bill? How about we TAX THE RICH instead of sticking our kids with the bill? Nope, that's off the table, and the table just got washed away in a flash flood, but hey, that's your problem, figure it out yourself.
Screw these business suit wearing barbarians.
More below the fold
Someone explain to me how the private sector is supposed to help Americans out when a hurricane leaves you stranded on your rooftop? Where is the private sector when it is time to rebuild our bridges or failing infrastructure? Do they create these jobs out of the kindness of their hearts? Seriously, what does privatizing everything in sight have to do with disaster relief? Nothing, but it is classic Shock Doctrine style disaster capitalism at work in which disasters are used to push a corporatist agenda like spending cuts and tax cuts for corporations.
This is what Republicans do, they gut funding for Government programs when they are in power and then cite the failures of those underfunded agencies as a reason to do away with them entirely.
So remember, when it comes to who will help you when your town is ravaged by a natural disaster, as Alan Grayson likes to say, you only have three friends, God, your mama, and the Democratic party, and I'm not so sure about the first two, because if it were up to these heartless corporate owned Republicans you are totally screwed. Right now my hometown of Washingtonville, NY is flooded to hell and will require tons of new infrastructure. Washingtonville (NY-19) is stuck with a do nothing Republican in congress, Nan Hayworth. She will do what Eric Cantor says, which is the same thing as Mitt Romney said, which is the same thing Milton Friedman would do, which is to leave you to starve and let the private sector figure it out. The entire GOP platform on several issues is simply "Don't get/have (fill in the blank here) and if you do, die quickly"
Welcome to third world America, peasants. Here's your tax cuts, no figure everything else out yourself.
With Republicans like this, who needs massive destruction caused by freak accidents of nature?
What is immoral to me is watching a guy who is rebuilding his mansion tell people that he refuses to pay higher taxes so that their small town doesn't stay destroyed.
This is the part in the class war where the rich guy goes galt and leaves the rest of you moochers screwed, because tax dollars should only go to war and corporate welfare, it is simply immoral to use YOUR tax dollars to help YOU.
Honestly, if you believe that torture is okay and helping people is immoral, fuck your "values".
