Nathan Gonzales of the Rothenberg Political Report just published his magnum opus roundup of the California House situation, and man did he do some serious work on this beast. While the full piece is behind a paywall, Nathan has graciously allowed us to mention all of the new possible candidate names he uncovered that we haven't yet discussed here at Daily Kos Elections-and wow did he unearth a ton. (One thing that is freely viewable on the RPR site is their House ratings page, where they've slotted ten different California races into competitive categories.)
Anyhow, the candidates are below-but note that we've previously mentioned other names for many of these races. Also, if you want a handy guide to where California's incumbents are running for reelection, check out our crowdsourced spreadsheet. Without further ado:
CA-08:
If [Cong. Jerry] Lewis (R) doesn't run, a number of Republicans would take a look at the race, including retired Marine/Assemblyman Paul Cook … and Gregg Imus, chief of staff to Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, who is trying to run as the tea party candidate.
CA-10:
On the Democratic side, attorney Mike Barkley is running, but the party will keep recruiting for other potential candidates.
CA-16:
Republicans would like to recruit state Sen. Anthony Cannella, who is in mid-term, but it’s very unclear that he is interested in taking on the challenge.
CA-24:
Actor Christopher Mitchum (R) is also mentioned. He lost a 1998 race for the Assembly and is the son of legendary actor Robert Mitchum.
CA-26:
This is an open seat where Cong. [Elton] Gallegly (R) could run. If not, a number of Republicans are mentioned. Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks and Moorpark City Councilman Keith Millhouse could run, but state Sen. Tony Strickland is also mentioned as a potential candidate.
CA-29:
Former Assemblywoman Cindy Montañez (D) could run ...
CA-31:
Russ Warner (D) ... might run here as well.
CA-32:
For Democrats ... former state senator Gloria Romero [might run].
CA-36:
Assemblyman Manny Perez (D) has been mentioned ...
CA-44:
This is another district where Cong. Linda Sanchez (D) could run or someone such as former South Gate City Councilman/former assemblyman Hector de la Torre (D) could be a major factor.
