Street Prophets has been at Orange through the summer, and we are almost to fall. We continue to hang at Blue, as well. At Orange, there are many diaries (posts....) that are placed at Streetprophets through republishing by our contributors. These are posts that our contributors feel are important and feel add to the spirit of the Prophets. At Blue, there are fewer posts, but the diaries get to have a lot more attention; as the pace moves more slowly.
So after a period of a few months, it is time to take stock of things and see what the Orange and Blue communities want to see from Streetprophets.
I have some thoughts below.
I would love to see more of our contributors actually contribute their own work. I look at the list of people who are contributors and see a lot of information and gifts that folks could share.
"What sort of information?" Thanks for asking!
I do not think all diaries need to be about politics or religion. Orange is a very large, fast moving place that makes it hard to establish a sense of community. I envision Streetprophets as a place that can be more quiet and communicative in a respectful sort of way.
The Coffee/Tea/Happy Hours are the Streetprophets way of encouraging people to slow down a bit and tell about your day. For these diaries, I would like to be sure that whoever is hosting gets back to the people who are responding and commenting.
I plan on restarting Vigils. Vigils are quiet diaries that encourage the community to think on topics as a group.
I would like to learn how people's spiritual life affects them in their daily actions. Does your spiritual life encourage you to work for our common causes at Blue and Orange? Diaries about the things you contribute to the world at large are encouraging to others and gives them incentive to give things a try.
We all have special abilities and gifts. Diaries about how we use these abilities and gifts to contribute to the common good would be welcome to me.
So, enough about me! What is the group interested in? Come on over to the bar, grab a drink, and let's discuss how we can grow. I am drinking a wonderful sweet white wine made in the Carolinas called Scuppernong. I call it white grape juice for adults. This is an open thread. Come on in!
