The economy is tough for many if not all of us but it should not stop us from being powerful activists in the progressive movement. It should instead unite us for a common cause and Van Jones' Rebuild the Dream movement is just one way to brand progressive organizations under one banner. A banner that resonates with middle of the road Americans. A banner that makes them believe in the American Dream of access and opportunity.
It is time to wake this nation out of its American nightmare of consumerism and greed and into a refreshing notion of community and potential.
The movement is heading to D.C. for Campaign for America's Future's annual conference "Take Back the American Dream." Here is where the Daily Kos community can help. Democracy for America is offering scholarships to offset the cost of attending the conference.
Winning a scholarship is the only way I can attend!
I know that attending the conference would mean more to me than just sitting at home or in a coffee shop writing some opinionated diary. I know it would mean the ability to network with other progressive leaders. It would give me the chance to learn to be a better organizer, a better writer and a better advocate for progressive causes.
Need to know a little bit about me before you vote? How about this from the application on how I became an activist:
I was raised to root for the underdog, the David versus the Goliath, the person with little to no chance at success. It informs my team biases and my political ideology. When I finally came of age to choose a team to follow I landed on the worst team in baseball – the Atlanta Braves. Shortly after that the team took a turn for the better knocking out 14 straight division championships. As a fan nothing gets much better than that.
Rooting and helping the underdog is a reward in and of itself. But the real reward comes when you win.
Please take a moment to vote for me?
Also - you should attend - hell apply for the scholarship as well... maybe we can meet in D.C.
